It's Not the Left That Controls Universities
A great piece by Asheesh Kapur Siddique an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Massachusetts–Amherst on who actually run the majority of the universities in the United States.
Over the last twenty years I have seen, first hand, the move from viewing YSU as a public, non-profit institution of higher education to a "business" where programs are evaluated based on return on investment (ROI) and "workforce development". No one denies that a university education is in part (and maybe a significant part) about job preparedness, but that is not its only function. It is also about preparing students for informed citizenship, life-long learning, critical thinking, and exposing student to a world of ideas.
